Article Title: Drop Hazardous Waste at Central Vermont Landfill May 11, 2002Edition: May 2002Category: General Interest Author: Article: Are you tripping over old paint, gasoline or household cleaners in your garage, barn or storage shed? Get rid of hazardous materials at the household hazardous waste collection day to be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 11, 2002. The collection, coordinated by the Central Vermont Solid Waste Management District will take place at the Central Vermont landfill on Route 2 in East Montpelier. The cost to dispose of the material at the drop off depends on the waste. Gasoline and household cleaners are 25 cents per pound. Oil-based paint is $3 per gallon, 80 cents per quart, and 40 cents per pint. If you are unsure how much your load will cost, do an inventory and call the waste district ahead of time and get a price. Neither Medical waste nor radioactive waste will be accepted at the drop off. The district is also suggesting that people bring their hazardous waste in its original containers so those disposing of the material at the drop off can be sure what it is. Officials are also urging people not to mix materials before bringing them to the drop off. People should refrain from bringing waste oil or antifreeze to the drop off, according to the district, because there is free drop off of those materials at depots around the district. For more information call the district at 229-9383. You have reached the end of the article.
