Article Title: No Arrests Yet in Liberty Street CrimesEdition: March 2002Category: General Interest Author: Jake Brown Article: At press time police had not made any arrests in connection with the burglary spree that struck Liberty Street in January. Montpelier police chief Doug Hoyt said the department is chasing down all leads but has yet to make any arrests. Several homes and cars were burglarized during the night and reports came in to police on the early morning of January 9, 2002. The perpetrator or perpetrator entered homes while residents slept and stole items like cameras and compact disk players. Some victims told The Bridge in February that the incidents have shaken their belief that Montpelier is a safe place to live. Hoyt said that burglaries of occupied homes are very rare in Vermont and Montpelier. The penalty for burglarizing an occupied home can carry a prison sentence of up to 25 years.
