V.E.I.'s mission is to "engage Vermonters to achieve a sustainable population and reduced resource consumption through research, education, and advocacy." Among other things, the institute offers a nine-session course called "Choices for Sustainable Living." The purpose of the course is to explore the meaning of sustainability, consider the ties between lifestyle choices and their impact on the earth and learn about steps that can be taken to move toward ecologically sustainable organizations, lifestyles and communities. V.E.I. courses usually have between 8 to 12 people who meet regularly to discuss readings and talk about how the topics relate to their values and experiences.
